Christmas is deeply rooted in the story of JESUS Christ, which is the main reason for the season but it is overshadowed by other festivities, Santa and holiday shopping. Do not get lost in the consumerism and unnecessary spending. It is more valuable to spend time with family and friends rather than RECEIVING or GIVING gifts.
The most important message from the life of Christ is to show LOVE to everyone, not for who they are, but in spite of who they are. This sounds easy but it is actually very hard for many people to do. Showing unconditional love to everyone is a reflection of courage and strength but at times, it feels like the hardest thing to accomplish. When we acknowledge that LOVE is more powerful than HATE, in time it will be easier for us love and forgive others. Be patient and give your HEART time to heal.
There are plenty of awesome people in the world. Do not focus each other’s differences. Too often we are divided by religion, lifestyle and race. Let’s focus on what UNITES humanity, then we will realize how similar we are and how much we have in common. Everyone has a shared desire for respect, love and dignity.
Christmas is a time to reflect on the importance of family, friends and community. It is a time to learn from past lessons and count our blessings. There is so much to be thankful for, but sadly, there are millions of people around the world in urgent need of the daily necessities of life.
Day by day, we pass the homeless on the street. Let’s take the time to give them something hot to drink or warm food to eat. Look them in the eye, SMILE and say thank you when they hold the door, as you rush to work or rush home to your family.
During this time of year, ask yourself how you can be a part of the solution for advancing humanity? How can you better spread the spirit of LOVE, JOY AND PEACE? Perhaps we can start by demonstrating kindness and compassion to each person we meet, NOT just during the holidays but every day of the year!
Wishing you an abundance of JOY, PEACE , GOOD HEALTH and most importantly LOVE!
On behalf of Resources for Youth, MERRY CHRISTMAS!
